Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) has expanded the caustic soda lye plant from 785 MTPD to 1310 MTPD of its Dahej complex. As a part of the caustic soda expansion, a new 700 MTPD Caustic Evaporation Unit (CEU) was also commissioned to cater to the requirement of Caustic Soda Lye production (48% wlw). Supplied by Alfa Laval, Sweden, the 700 MTPD Caustic Evaporation Unit is one of the largest capacity units in India at one location. The unit has been established and commissioned successfully. For the handing over ceremony of the newly established CEU, the Business Unit President, Alfa Laval – Karin Forsberg from Sweden, and other officials visited Dahej, Gujarat.

India continue to impose anti-dumping duty on imports of caustic soda from China and South Korea for five years at $21.9- 48.39 per dry metric ton. “There is positive evidence of likelihood of dumping and injury if the existing anti-dumping duties are allowed to cease, the Authority is of the view that the anti-dumping duty in force on imports of the product under consideration from the subject countries is required to be continued further,” the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) said in its latest notification. After a detailed examination, the DGTR concluded that the product under consideration is likely to be dumped in significant volumes in the event of expiry of duty.
