To replace a 90-degree PVC elbow, start by turning off the water supply to prevent leaks. Next, cut the PVC pipes connected to either side of the elbow, ensuring the cuts are straight and clean using a PVC cutter or a handsaw. Leave enough pipe on each side to attach a new elbow. After cutting, remove the old elbow. If it’s glued, you might need to cut it out entirely. Clean the edges of the pipes with sandpaper to remove any burrs or old glue. Apply PVC primer to the outside of the pipes and the inside of the new elbow. Then, apply PVC cement over the primed areas, and quickly insert the pipes into the new elbow, making sure they’re fully seated. Hold the assembly in place for a few seconds to ensure a strong bond. Finally, allow the cement to cure according to the manufacturer’s recommendations before turning the water back on.
