Carl Switzer, who debuted as a member of the gang of rascals in the television series “Our Gang” or “The Little Rascals,” played an important character whose name was Alfalfa. Born in 1927 and acting as young as 6, he became famous for his portrayal of Alfalfa, a boy character with an exceptionally bright cowlick and some humorous styles of singing. After “Our Gang” ended in 1944, Switzer found it hard to secure major roles, as most producers tend to typecast. He resorted to undertaking minor film roles and television appearances. In the 1950s, he engaged in hunting and guiding, a business that took him to Idaho. Sadly, Switzer’s life took a tragic turn when he died in a shot dispute over money in 1959. Although there was no restoration of this undisputed idol, the character Alfalfa that he interpreted will remain in the hearts of many because of its reruns and references in culture.
