Coating a BBQ grill is essential for preventing rust and ensuring food doesn't stick during cooking. Firstly, clean your grill thoroughly to remove any residue or rust. Use a wire brush for grates and a degreaser for other parts. After cleaning, dry it completely. Next, apply a high-heat resistant cooking oil (such as canola or vegetable oil) evenly across the grates and other surfaces exposed to heat. Avoid using too much oil to prevent flare-ups. You can use a cloth or paper towel to spread the oil. Now, heat your grill to around 400°F (204°C) and maintain this temperature for about 15 minutes. This process, known as seasoning, will create a protective barrier that prevents rust and creates a non-stick surface. Repeat this process at least once a year or whenever you notice the coating starting to wear off. If it's a new grill, doing this before its first use can also remove any manufacturing residues, ensuring cleaner tasting food.
