Q
why do some dyes move further up
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
In paper chromatography, the movement of dyes is influenced by their solubility in the solvent and their attraction to the paper. Dyes that are more soluble in the solvent will move further up the paper because they dissolve better and are carried along more easily with the solvent front. On the other hand, dyes with a stronger attraction to the paper fibers will move less because they are more inclined to adhere to the paper than to travel with the solvent. Additionally, the molecular size can also affect movement; smaller molecules tend to travel further than larger ones due to less resistance. Thus, the differential movement of dyes in chromatography can be attributed to variations in solubility, molecular size, and the extent of their attraction to the chromatography medium.
