When heating a polymer, various changes occur depending on the polymer's properties and the amount of heat applied. Initially, as the temperature increases, the polymer becomes softer and more pliable due to an increase in segmental motion of the polymer chains. This state is known as the glass transition and is a critical temperature range for thermoplastic polymers, which can be repeatedly melted and reshaped. Beyond this, if the temperature continues to rise, the polymer may enter a rubbery state, where it becomes very elastic and stretchable. However, if heating continues to more extreme temperatures, the polymer can degrade. This degradation involves breaking of the polymer chains, leading to a loss of mechanical properties, discoloration, and potentially the formation of harmful by-products. For thermosetting polymers, once they are set by applying heat initially, further heating usually leads to decomposition, not melting, as these polymers are cross-linked and do not flow even when heated after curing.
To effectively operate a Nordson epoxy hand dispensing machine, first familiarize yourself with its components: cartridge, static mixer, and trigger gun. Ensure the epoxy is at room temperature and fill the cartridge according to the manufacturer's guidelines. Secure the cartridge into the holder, attach the static mixer, and prime the system by squeezing the trigger gun until a consistent flow is achieved. Dispense the epoxy onto your substrate by maintaining an even pressure on the trigger and a steady movement. For best results, follow Nordson’s recommendations for curing times and conditions. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the nozzle after each use, will prolong the machine's life.
Gelatin capsules, commonly used in pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements, are primarily made from animal collagen, which is a protein. Upon hydrolysis, this protein breaks down into various amino acids. The most prevalent amino acids found in gelatin include glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. These three make up about half of the total amino acid composition. Glycine plays a crucial role in various bodily functions and is essential for the synthesis of other biological compounds. Proline and hydroxyproline are vital for maintaining skin health and supporting connective tissue integrity. Other amino acids present in smaller quantities include alanine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, serine, arginine, threonine, cysteine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, lysine, and histidine. Each of these amino acids contributes to the overall nutritional value and functionality of gelatin capsules.
