The core technology involves numerous microscopic nozzles in the printhead, which are controlled by the printer’s microelectronics. When a document or image is sent to the printer, it translates the data into precise instructions for these nozzles, dictating when and where to release ink. There are two primary inkjet technologies: thermal and piezoelectric. Thermal inkjets, used by manufacturers like HP and Canon, heat the ink to create vapor bubbles that force droplets out of the nozzles. Conversely, piezoelectric inkjets, used by Epson, employ a piezoelectric material in each nozzle that changes shape when electrically charged, propelling ink droplets onto the paper.
