Q
does gel ink work on plastic
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
Gel ink pens typically struggle to work on plastic surfaces. The main reason is that gel ink is water-based, which does not adhere well to non-porous surfaces like plastic. The ink can easily smear, rub off, or fail to dry properly. For a more permanent solution on plastic, markers or pens designed specifically for use on such surfaces, like those containing oil-based or alcohol-based inks, are more effective. These inks are formulated to bond with the plastic, creating a durable, smudge-resistant line. For temporary markings, though, a gel pen could still be used, but with the expectation that it won't be permanent or particularly legible over time.
