Q
how to calculate total ink coverage
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
Calculating total ink coverage is crucial in the printing process to avoid issues like paper saturation or misprints. It involves determining the percentage of each of the primary printing colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key/Black - CMYK) used on the most ink-covered page of the document. To calculate total coverage, analyze the document with a preflight tool in graphic software like Adobe Acrobat or Illustrator. These tools provide the ink coverage percentage for each color. Add the percentages of all four colors together to get the total ink coverage. For example, if your document uses 20% Cyan, 30% Magenta, 10% Yellow, and 5% Black, the total ink coverage would be 65%. Staying below the maximum ink coverage recommended by your printer (usually around 240-300%) is vital to prevent issues.
