Q
what pigments make black
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
Black pigments can be derived from a variety of substances, both organic and inorganic. Traditionally, charcoal (carbon black) and bone black (bone char) are common sources. Carbon black is produced by burning materials with a high carbon content (like wood or oil) in limited oxygen, resulting in a deep, matte black. Bone black, derived from charred animal bones, contains calcium phosphate and carbon, giving it a slightly warmer tone. Another inorganic black pigment, iron oxide black (also known as magnetite or ferrous-ferric oxide), is made from iron sheets processed under heat. Synthetic blacks, such as aniline black, made from aniline oil, also exist. These pigments have different properties in terms of stability, tinting strength, and opacity, making them suitable for various applications in art, industry, and cosmetics.
