Q
what is a non ionic surfactant
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
A non-ionic surfactant is a substance that reduces surface tension between two substances without carrying an electrical charge. Unlike ionic surfactants, which contain charged particles, non-ionic types achieve their effect through the uncharged, hydrophilic (water-attracting) and hydrophobic (water-repelling) parts of their molecular structure. This characteristic allows them to be more stable in solutions with varying pH levels and makes them gentler for use in personal care products, laundry detergents, and industrial cleaning agents. They are often chosen for formulations where reduced irritation is critical or where the performance of ionic surfactants might be hindered by the presence of other ions. Non-ionic surfactants are versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications, including emulsifiers, wetting agents, dispersants, and foaming agents.
