Amino acids themselves do not directly undergo glycolysis. Glycolysis is a metabolic pathway primarily concerned with the breakdown of glucose into pyruvate, generating energy in the form of ATP. However, amino acids can be related to glycolysis in a more indirect manner. Through a process known as gluconeogenesis — essentially the reverse of glycolysis — certain amino acids can be converted into glucose, which then could enter the glycolysis pathway.
