how to dye cashmere yarn

Dyeing cashmere yarn requires care and attention due to its delicate nature. First, choose a suitable dye; acid dyes are commonly used for their vibrant colors and fastness. Before dyeing, gently hand wash the yarn in lukewarm water with mild detergent to remove any dirt or oils. Rinse thoroughly. Next, soak the yarn in a water and vinegar solution (about 1 cup of white vinegar per pound of yarn) for at least 30 minutes to help set the dye. Meanwhile, prepare the dye bath by dissolving the dye in hot water according to the manufacturer's instructions. Gently place the soaked yarn into the dye bath, ensuring it's fully submerged. Stir occasionally over low heat for about an hour until the water clears, indicating the dye has been absorbed. Rinse the yarn in cool water until the water runs clear, then lay flat to dry. This process ensures even color distribution while preserving the softness and integrity of the cashmere.
