Q
how to tell if grout is epoxy
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
To differentiate whether grout is epoxy-based or not, observe its physical properties and behavior over time. Epoxy grout tends to have a glossy finish in comparison to cementitious grouts which often have a matte appearance. Epoxy is also notably more resistant to staining and water penetration, staying intact without cracking or crumbling even in damp conditions. If the grout is older and has resisted staining and the accumulation of mildew or mold, it's likely epoxy-based. Another test is chemical resistance; epoxy grout is impervious to household chemicals, whereas traditional grout will show signs of damage or discoloration when exposed to harsh cleaners. However, these observations should be considered alongside the fact that advanced cementitious grouts with sealing additives might exhibit similar characteristics.
