The foundation of inkjet printing technology was laid by multiple inventors and companies through the 1950s to the 1970s, making it hard to attribute the invention to a single person. However, Canon engineer Ichiro Endo played a significant role in the development of the inkjet printer. He led the team that developed the system for precisely controlling the droplets of ink, a technological breakthrough that is essential for the inkjet printers we use today. Simultaneously, Epson and Hewlett-Packard (HP) were also working on similar technologies, leading to their own versions of the inkjet printer. This was a period of intense research and development, culminating in the commercial release of the first consumer inkjet printers in the 1980s.
Sawgrass Ink is considered expensive due to several factors. Firstly, Sawgrass specializes in sublimation inks, which require a complex manufacturing process to ensure they can transform from solid to gas, allowing designs to permanently bond with polyester fabrics and certain hard surfaces. This specialized formulation involves high-quality pigments that resist fading and withstand high temperatures, thus driving up costs. Secondly, the brand invests heavily in research and development to maintain its leading position in the market. This ensures their inks deliver vibrant colors, sharp details, and long-lasting prints, all of which add value but also increase the price. Lastly, Sawgrass printers and inks are designed to work seamlessly together, providing optimal performance. However, this compatibility often means users must stick to Sawgrass products, which can be more costly than generic alternatives. Despite the higher upfront cost, many professionals and enthusiasts find the investment worthwhile for the superior quality and reliability.
Tattoos work by inserting pigment into the skin's dermis layer, which is the second layer of the skin. Carbon black is a common pigment used in black tattoo inks. It is favored for its stability, color intensity, and resistance to fading. When a tattoo needle pierces the skin, it creates a small wound. The ink is deposited into this wound, and as the skin heals, cells called macrophages attempt to clean up the foreign material. However, the ink particles are too large for the macrophages to remove completely, allowing the tattoo to remain visible. The carbon black pigment, made from the incomplete combustion of heavy petroleum products, is absorbed and encapsulated by fibroblasts in the dermis, stabilizing the pigment in the skin. This results in the permanent mark known as a tattoo. With advancements in tattoo inks and techniques, carbon black has remained a popular choice for its durability and the sharpness it can bring to tattoo artistry.
