The coloring of salmon meat is a common practice, but it's not through direct dyeing. Instead, farmed salmon receive feed containing astaxanthin, a natural pigment that imparts the characteristic pinkish-orange hue to their flesh. Wild salmon develop this color by eating krill and small fish rich in astaxanthin. However, farmed salmon's diet naturally lacks these elements, so producers add synthetic astaxanthin to the feed. This process ensures the salmon's appearance meets consumer expectations, as paler flesh is often associated with lower quality. While concerns have been raised about the use of synthetic astaxanthin, regulatory bodies like the FDA consider it safe for consumption. For those preferring a more natural approach, wild-caught salmon remains an option, though it's typically more expensive.
Intertape Polymer Group (IPG) officially relocated its headquarters in the summer of 2017. The move was from Bradenton, Florida, to Sarasota, Florida, in the United States, marking a significant step for the company, which is a recognized leader in the development, manufacture, and sale of a variety of paper and film-based pressure-sensitive and water-activated tapes, polyethylene and specialized polyolefin films, protective packaging, woven coated fabrics, and complementary packaging systems. This move was part of IPB's strategic plan to consolidate its operations and support its growth. By situating the headquarters closer to major transportation hubs and in a region known for its favorable business climate, IPG aimed to enhance operational efficiency, attract top talent, and better serve its global customer base.
Titanium dioxide is a physical sunscreen ingredient known for its ability to block ultraviolet radiation. While it is highly effective at blocking UVB rays and short-wave UVA rays (UVA-2), its protection against the longer wave UVA rays (UVA-1) is not as strong compared to its counterpart, zinc oxide. UVA-1 rays penetrate the skin more deeply and are associated with premature aging. To achieve broad-spectrum protection, titanium dioxide is often used in conjunction with other UV filters that can absorb or reflect the full spectrum of UVA rays. Therefore, while titanium dioxide does provide UVA protection, its effectiveness is primarily against a portion of the UVA spectrum. For comprehensive UVA and UVB protection, formulations usually include a combination of sunscreen agents.
