Silicone does not adhere well to PVC (polyvinyl chloride) due to the non-porous and smooth nature of PVC surfaces. Silicone sealants and adhesives require a slightly porous or rough surface to ensure a good bond. Since PVC is slick and chemically resistant, silicone applied directly to it might not stick or could peel off over time. For better adhesion, it's recommended to use a primer designed for plastic surfaces or to opt for adhesives specifically formulated for PVC. Sanding the PVC surface lightly can also create a more adhesive-friendly surface by increasing its roughness and improving the mechanical bond.
Not all tile adhesive is waterproof. Tile adhesives are formulated differently based on their intended use. While some are designed for areas with high moisture, like bathrooms and kitchens, and contain waterproof or water-resistant properties, others are not made to withstand moisture and can degrade when exposed to water. For areas prone to water exposure, selecting a waterproof adhesive or ensuring the tile adhesive’s specifications meet the demands of the environment is crucial. It's also important to differentiate between water-resistant and waterproof adhesives; the former can handle occasional splashes, whereas the latter is suited for continuous water exposure.
Applying a thin layer of epoxy requires careful preparation and technique. First, ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of dust or oil. Mix the epoxy resin and hardener in the precise ratio recommended by the manufacturer. For a thin layer, use a foam brush or a roller designed for epoxy to spread it smoothly across the surface. Work in a well-ventilated area and wear protective gear. Apply epoxy in thin, even strokes to avoid air bubbles and ensure a level finish. If applying multiple coats, allow adequate curing time between layers as specified by the product instructions. Finally, use sanding (if necessary) after curing to achieve a smooth finish. Proper mixing, application technique, and patience are key to successfully applying a thin layer of epoxy.
