The coating on aspirin, also known as enteric coating, is a polymer barrier applied on oral medication that prevents its dissolution or disintegration in the gastric environment. This specialized coating is designed to remain intact in the acidic conditions of the stomach (pH ~1.5 to 3.5) and only dissolve when it reaches the more neutral pH conditions of the small intestine (pH ~5.5 to 7.5). The primary reason for using an enteric coating on aspirin is to minimize its direct irritative effect on the stomach lining, thereby reducing the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort or ulcers which can be a side effect of uncoated aspirin. Additionally, this coating helps in controlling the time of release of the aspirin, ensuring a predictable absorption rate which is crucial for its therapeutic efficacy. The use of enteric-coated aspirin is particularly beneficial for long-term users or those with known gastric sensitivities.
Using a photo emulsion for silkscreen printing involves a few steps. First, select a pure photopolymer emulsion designed for screen printing. Next, coat your clean, dry screen evenly with the emulsion under dim light and let it dry in a dark, cool place. Prepare your design on a transparency film. Once the screen is dry, place the transparency on the screen and expose it to a strong light source; exposure time varies depending on your light source and emulsion type, but it typically ranges from 5 to 10 minutes. This process burns the image onto the screen by hardening the emulsion where the light hits, leaving unexposed areas soft. Wash the screen gently with water; unexposed emulsion will wash out, revealing your design. Let the screen dry completely. You're now ready to print by placing the screen over your material, adding ink, and using a squeegee to press the ink through the screen onto your material. Clean the screen after use if you plan to reuse it. Utilizing photo emulsion allows for detailed and precise designs in silkscreen printing, offering a professional finish.
Arrowroot is an excellent thickener for sauces, soups, and desserts. It’s derived from a tropical South American plant and is favored for its neutral flavor and gluten-free properties. Unlike cornstarch, arrowroot becomes clear when cooked and doesn't break down in acidic dishes or freeze-thaw cycles, making it a versatile choice in culinary applications. It's also easily digestible, thus suitable for diets requiring easily tolerated thickeners. Arrowroot should be mixed with a cool liquid before being added to a hot dish to prevent clumping. However, it's used at a lower ratio than flour or cornstarch, typically half the amount of flour required and equal parts when substituting for cornstarch.
