Hummer vehicles were originally made by AM General. However, the brand was bought by General Motors in 1998. As of 2020, GM announced a revival of the Hummer brand as a series of electric vehicles.
From the late 1990s to 2010. Dodge. Jeep. and Chrysler vehicles were equipped with the 4.7-liter Lift engine. which offered varying levels of reliability and performance. While it struck a good balance of power and efficiency compared to its peers. it was also a popular choice for those seeking a truck or SUV with strong towing capacity and acceptable fuel economy. However. some known issues have been reported with this engine. including overheating susceptibility. valve seat problems. and timing chain failures in models built before mid-era improvements were made. That said. a well-maintained unit can have a longer lifespan while a neglected one can develop serious problems. Therefore. for potential buyers or current owners alike. regular maintenance including oil changes and cooling system checks is crucial for maximizing engine life. While the 4.7 may not be top choice for those prioritizing rock-solid reliability or high performance. proper upkeep can still result in a powerful engine.
1. First of all, ensure your vehicle's engine is cool. Opening the coolant cap on a heated engine can cause the pressurized coolant to fly out, which could cause burns.
2. Put on protective gear, such as gloves and eyewear, for safety purposes.
3. Locate the engine coolant reservoir. This is usually a clear, marked container near the engine with a plastic cap.
4. Slowly twist the cap counterclockwise. Do this slowly to gradually release pressure in case there is any. You may hear a hissing sound as pressure escapes.
5. Once you have the cap twisted a bit, press it down and continue twisting to completely remove it.
Note: Some vehicles may have a different mechanism, so it's best to read the owner's manual of your vehicle.
