Type IIx fibers, also known as fast glycolytic fibers, are the most prone to fatigue. These muscle fibers can generate high levels of force very quickly and are typically engaged during high-intensity, short-duration activities like sprinting or heavy weight lifting. Unlike Type I fibers, which are slow-twitch and more resistant to fatigue due to their ability to use oxygen more efficiently for energy, Type IIx fibers rely primarily on anaerobic metabolism. This means they use glycogen stores within the muscle for energy, which produces lactic acid as a byproduct, contributing to the quick onset of fatigue. Moreover, they have a lower capacity for oxygen delivery and less blood supply compared to Type I fibers, making them less efficient at sustaining activity over time.
