Q
characteristics of hdpe and ldpe
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) are both thermoplastics produced from ethylene. HDPE has a linear structure resulting in stronger intermolecular forces and tensile strength, making it rigid and durable, ideal for high-pressure applications like water pipes and milk jugs. LDPE, with its branched structure, is more flexible and translucent, suited for applications requiring flexibility such as plastic bags and food wrap. Both materials are recyclable, but HDPE's higher strength and resistance to chemicals and weather make it suitable for outdoor applications, whereas LDPE's lower density and softer nature cater to packaging that needs to be squeezable.
