Polypropylene, a thermoplastic polymer, is widely used in various industries due to its versatility and durability. In FTIR analysis, the PP sample is exposed to an infrared light source. The molecular bonds within the PP absorb specific frequencies of the infrared light, creating a unique spectral fingerprint. Key characteristic peaks for PP include the methyl group (CH3) stretching vibrations around 2950 cm^-1 and the CH stretching vibrations in the range of 2840-2800 cm^-1. Additionally, the absorption bands near 1450 cm^-1 and 1375 cm^-1 correspond to CH3 bending vibrations, significant for confirming the presence of PP. Through FTIR analysis, modifications such as oxidation or the presence of additives can be detected, making it an essential tool for quality control and research in the development of PP-based materials.
