Q
contact cement on hdpe
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
Contact cement, a strong, rubber-based adhesive, is often used for its immediate bond without clamping. However, when it comes to High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), a common plastic known for its strength, durability, and chemical resistance, the use of contact cement can be challenging. HDPE's non-porous and slick surface makes it difficult for adhesives, including contact cement, to form a strong bond. Surface preparation, such as cleaning and possibly lightly sanding to create a rougher surface area, might improve adhesion slightly, but generally, adhesives specifically designed for plastics or even plastic welding techniques are more effective for joining HDPE materials. Always check the adhesive's compatibility with HDPE before application.
