However, when it comes to PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) pipes, plumber's putty is not recommended. The oils in plumber's putty can cause the PVC material to break down over time, potentially leading to leaks or pipe damage. For sealing or joining PVC pipes, it's advisable to use products specifically designed for PVC, such as PVC solvent cement. This type of adhesive chemically welds the PVC pipe joints together, creating a strong, watertight seal that is much more suitable and durable for PVC piping systems.
