Clariant introduces pigments for new color opportunities
Clariant introduces three azo pigments that offer new opportunities for designers and producers of plastic products in India. These pigments were unveiled at the ongoing PlastIndia 2012. All three products are presented at the Clariant booth 7F-R1, where visitors can also find details of the full Clariant pigments product range.
The first of the new pigments is PV Fast Red HGR, a high performance azo pigment with Color Index Pigment Red (PR) 285. This mid red shade pigment displays a high light fastness as well as excellent heat stability. Thanks to its low warping properties and FDA compliance, this pigment is ideally suited for food packaging applications. When used in combination with PV Fast Yellow HGR (PY 191), which has similar properties, it provides new opportunities to match brilliant, economical orange shades.
New PV Fast Yellow H4G – Color Index Pigment Yellow (PY) 151 – is a greenish yellow pigment that offers an excellent alternative to inorganic pigments. PV Fast Yellow H4G displays high light fastness and good heat stability.
For producers looking for a bright red-shade of orange, Clariant introduces PV Fast Orange H2GL, Color Index Pigment Orange (PO) 64. This brilliant, pure orange pigment has excellent overall properties for the coloration of both polyolefins and PVC as well as polystyrene and selected other polymers. Thanks to its FDA compliance, PV Fast Orange H2GL opens up numerous possibilities for applications in food packaging and consumer goods.
In addition to introducing these new pigments, the Clariant team also highlights Clariant’s two ranges of pigments suitable for the coloration of TPEs and Polyamide. Where the coloration of polyamide with organic pigments is often restricted due to the limited range of suitable pigments or dyes, Clariant offers a comprehensive pigment and dyes portfolio for these applications.
Sambit Roy, Head of Plastics and Special Applications, Clariant Chemicals (India) Limited said: “We are excited to be introducing such a broad range of products in this dynamic and fast-growing market, where we can offer both the expertise and the variety required to support designers, producers and brand-owners who are looking for major differentiation of their products.”
Roy added: “Technological advancements have revolutionized the plastics industry globally. Halogen free, FDA compliant pigments are gaining popularity, especially given the growing concerns over ecological pollution. Clariant in India is fully geared up to address the new challenges, in terms of local availability of selected High Performance Pigments through local production activities at its Roha and Cuddalore sites in India. We also have set up a state of art Technical Service Lab and the Product Safety Lab to support customer projects on development activity and regulatory support.”
