Sasol’s alcohol unit at Lake Charles achieves beneficial operation

Sasol announced the June 19, 2020 achievement of operating profit at its Lake Charles Chemical Project ("LCCP2020") in its Gilbert Alcohol Division. The new Gerbert unit is Sasol's second Gerbert Alcohol production site, the other being the LCCP specialty chemicals unit in Brunsbüttel, Germany. Currently operating at 86% of its total capacity with LCCP 100% online, the Guerbet unit utilizes Sasol's proprietary technology and has a capacity of 30,000 tons per year. This is the sixth LCCP production unit.The LCCP Ziegler unit achieved operational efficiency on June 16, 2020, expanding the existing Ziegler plant in Lake Charles to add to the existing Ziegler capacity in Brunsbtel, Germany. 

The plant is the largest in the world, producing 173,000 tons of ethanol and 32,000 tons of alumina annually. The Ziegler facility is LCCP China's most complex technology is proprietary and based on Sasol. Proprietary technology.LCCP's last remaining operating unit is a low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit that was damaged by a one-month fire in 2020. The project is expected to be profitable by the end of September 2020 based on previous guidance.
