Dow today announced the first large-scale commercialization of AGILITY CE, an innovative resin made from 70 percent recycled plastic.

Plastigaur, a leading film processor headquartered in Spain, uses AGILITY CE in its finishing shrink films that are typically used for shipping cans or PETT bottles. This collaboration is an important step in Dow's ambition to promote a circular economy for plastics.

The resin is based on low-density polyethylene (LDPE), a post-consumer recycled shrink film (PCR) material that does not compromise the quality and functionality of the material in its final application. AGILITY CE, first introduced in late 2019, is Dow Chemical's first PCR product. The company currently offers PCRR products in all of its operating regions.

Incorporating recycled content (PCR) This is an important step in reducing the carbon footprint of packaging. Plastigaur's PCRRR has developed a final shrink film content of 50 percent with a 25 percent reduced carbon footprint.

Dow also worked with Plastigaur to reduce the thickness of shrink film containing PCR from 45 microns to 40 microns. By reducing thickness while maintaining packaging functionality, the film can reduce CO2 emissions by an additional 11 percent and reduce overall environmental impact by 32 percent. This development is an example of Dow's strategy to reduce resources, plastic waste and carbon emissions, and is consistent with the company's new commitment to address plastic waste and climate change.

Agniszka Godlewska, Marketing Manager, Industrial and Consumer Packaging, said: "Working closely with Plastigarr accelerated the launch of PCRR Innovations This product launch and demonstrates a commercially viable solution using materials made from recycled materials.

Luis Artola, Managing Director of Plastigaur "We are pleased to have developed a new type of finishing shrink film that will bring us closer to our brand owners and fulfill our sustainability goals."Artola added: "Integrating recycled materials can be challenging, but with the latest technology and industry experience we have been able to push the boundaries and we are very proud of the results."
