NEW DELHI: Imports of truck and bus radial (TBR) tires surged in the first two months of fiscal 2016-17, while prices of automotive radial tires fell by 20%, prompting industry body ATMA to ask the government to impose anti-dumping duty on tire imports from China.

ATMA also said that China dominates as a supplier and its share in India’s TBR imports has increased from 90% in 2015-16 to 95% in 2016-17, 70% in 2014-15, 70% in 2013.-14. 40% per annum.

ATMA claimed that “the unit price of tires imported from China is much lower than the cost of tire manufacturing”.

He added, “However, reckless import and dumping of cheap tires from China is causing serious damage to the domestic manufacturing sector.”

With the US imposing high dumping and countervailing duties on Chinese exports to the US, India’s position as a Chinese target has become more vulnerable, industry sources said.
