Acrylic yarn is made from acrylonitrile, a synthetic polymer. The production process starts with the polymerization of acrylonitrile into a powder. This powder is then dissolved in a solvent to form a thick solution, known as dope. The dope is extruded through spinnerets, producing long, continuous filaments that solidify when they come into contact with air or are immersed in a chemical bath. These filaments are stretched to align the polymer chains, which increases their strength and elasticity. The stretched filaments are then spun into yarns.
