Borouge awards US$169 million contract to Hyundai for construction of speciality

Flow, a leading provider of innovative plastics solutions, has signed a $169.1 million contract with Hyundai Engineering & Construction in South Korea to manufacture cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) equipment.

The annual capacity of the unit is 80,000 tons of low density polyethylene (LDPE) The added value of the unit allows for the manufacture of innovative plastics solutions for low-voltage and high-voltage energy cables.

This contract is the last major contract for the large Borz expansion project already underway in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Hyundai Engineering & Construction is also providing utilities and external facilities for the project.

When Boru Phase 3 is fully commissioned in mid-2014, the plant will more than double its annual capacity to 4.5 million metric tons, making it the largest integrated polyolefin plant in the world. Flow and Nordic Chemicals are committed to becoming a leading and reliable long-term supplier of polymers to the global wire and cable infrastructure market.
