Apollo Tyres expects to meet $5-billion revenue target by 2025-26

The next step in the company’s plan is to develop electric tires for motorcycles, considering that sales are currently low.

NEW DELHI: Apollo Tyres expects to accelerate the use of electric vehicles in the coming years and is trying to cater to both the passenger car and the two-wheeler segment. The company on Monday launched two tire brands: electric passenger cars and two-wheelers to explore opportunities in domestic and international markets.

“There is a consensus that the electric two-wheeler market will grow the fastest, with scooters leading the way, followed by motorcycles.

Moreover, by 2030 the annual sales of four-wheelers are expected to increase and account for about 15-20% of total vehicle sales. By 2030, sales of electric two-wheelers will account for 30-35% of total sales, he said. Sharma said.

The company has launched two brands-Amperion and Wav-for electric passenger cars and two-wheelers respectively.

He also noted that the company wants to enter the European market with electric models under the Vredestein brand.

Sharma said, “This product will be launched in Europe first. If necessary, we will take it to India as the real activity in the premium market will come from the premium players.”

He added that global luxury companies like Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volvo are considering launching at least one or two electric cars.

Apollo Amperion will fulfill the requirements of Indian hatchbacks, compact SUVs and the demand for electric vehicles in the automotive market such as the Tata Nexon, MG ZSE, Hyundai Kona and other upcoming electric vehicles.

On the other hand, Apollo WAV supports most of the high-powered electric scooters across the country like TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450.

Considering the current very low sales in the electric scooter segment, the company plans to develop electronic tires for motorcycles as the next step.

Sharma said, “Our team has invested years of research to understand the changing dynamics and needs of the electric vehicle segment and improve the product we are launching today.”

He added that the tire giant has been in discussions with many OEMs in India to supply tires for electric vehicles and will have the largest share of the electric vehicle segment in India, including solar and two-wheelers.

The company said its EV tires use the latest generation of polymers, traction resins and other raw materials to cope with the transient acceleration of EVs.
