TotalEnergies has announced the introduction of a new high-density polyethylene for tethered lid application (HDPE) resin that reduces material use, improves recycling rates and increases recovery rates. The new HDPE 20HD07 resin has improved mechanical and sensory properties and uses less material than the market standard to achieve the same technical closure performance, which reduces the carbon footprint of end-use applications, such as beverage or cosmetic bottles. In addition, it contributes to the circular economy by designing packaging solutions for single material PE that can be easily sorted for recycling. The new product is suitable for food contact applications and meets all market requirements for bottle caps and closures. It is fully compliant with European Directive (EU) 2019/904, which reduces the environmental impact of plastic products. TotalEnergies will be attending the AMI Day in Barcelona, Spain, on June 14-15, 2023 at the Plastic Lid Innovations conference, where experts will be available to answer questions about this development. “TotalEnergies is committed to improving the environmental impact of our products. Applying eco-design principles in the development process can further increase weight loss potential while maintaining high performance and increasing recyclability to 30% of production. Greiner, vice president of polymers, Europe and East, TotalEnergies The company’s goal is to develop prototype polymers once a year by 2030.
