Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) today announced that its new specialty polymer plant in Cheregon, Indonesia has been officially operational. This will increase Cabot's global annual production capacity of specialty polymers such as black masterbatches and conductive polymers by 20,000 tons. As one of the largest masterbatch and conductive polymer production plants in the South Asia-Pacific region, the commissioning of the new factory further consolidates Cabot's leading position in the local and even global specialty polymer market.
The construction of the new factory took 16 months and 500,000 people worked hours. During this period, thanks to high safety standards of operations, Cabot employees and contractor personnel did not experience any recordable injuries. The new plant is co-located with Cabot's existing carbon black production base in Chilgon, allowing Cabot to improve the economic benefits of integration across the base by improving production efficiency and reducing waste, including using energy recycled from the carbon black plant to reduce its environmental impact.
Covering an area of more than 6,000 square feet, the design and operation of the Cabot Zlegon Specialty Polymers Plant incorporate the company's latest technological achievements. The factory is not only equipped with production lines and storage facilities for PLASBLAK® black masterbatch and CABELC ® conductive polymer, conductive concentrated masterbatch, but also equipped with laboratories with industry-leading technology to ensure a stable supply of Masterbatches and specialty polymer products that meet market standards and customer customization needs.
Cabot black masterbatches and conductive polymers are widely used in automotive, electronics, infrastructure, agriculture and packaging industries.
