Schwalbe, a well-known German bicycle tire manufacturer, recently announced that it has achieved significant sustainable development results in its cooperation with Pyrum, a waste tire pyrolysis company, which has achieved mass production of 70% of recycled tires.
Schwalbe said they are working closely with Pyrum to convert used tires into recycled carbon black (rCB)This material can be directly used in the production of new tires. According to the Carbon Black Industry Network, by adopting rCB, Schwalbe can replace 100% of fossil-based carbon black and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80% during the production process.
This achievement is a reflection of Schwalbe's intensive research and development efforts. Felix Jahn, the company's director of corporate social responsibility, emphasized that the use of rCB will not affect tire quality and performance. Currently, this recycled material is widely used in Schwalbe's various bicycle tires, including road vehicles, gravel trucks, mountain bikes, and urban and cargo bicycles. However, rCB has not yet been used in tires with specific compounds such as Addix Ultra Soft, as the company is still working hard to ensure that this goal is achieved without sacrificing quality.
In addition, Schwalbe launched the "Schwalbe Recycling System" in July last year. The program has worked with 1800 dealers in Germany and successfully recycled nearly 940,000 tires. The company said it is planning to expand the collection and recycling process to other countries to further promote sustainable development around the world.
