A new source of white carbon black! Guizhou coal gangue conversion technology achieves breakthrough

On April 3, it was reported that the Key Laboratory of Clean Coal Utilization in Guizhou Province made breakthrough progress. They successfully completed the pilot test of preparing white carbon black from coal gangue and co-producing polyaluminum ferric chloride. Since its establishment in 2019, this experimental project has taken five years of in-depth research and development, and has finally achieved the high added value utilization of coal gangue, providing important technical guidance for further development in this field.

The research team used a unique process route to convert coal gangue, originally regarded as waste, into valuable white carbon black. In this process, acid leaching residue played a key role. The sodium silicate solution obtained by alkali extraction was further synthesized by precipitation method to synthesize white carbon black. The successful application of this technology not only significantly extends the industrial chain of coal gangue, but also broadens its utilization fields, thereby achieving the maximum utilization of resources.

According to the Carbon Black Industry Network, Wu Hongru, deputy administrative director of the Key Laboratory of Clean Coal Utilization of Guizhou Province, said that the technology has been successfully transferred to Guizhou Huayao Group in 2023, which marks that this innovative achievement has moved from the laboratory to the market, will inject new vitality into the development of related industries. She emphasized that the entire treatment process is not only efficient, but also conforms to the concept of green and environmental protection, almost realizing the "eating and squeezing" of coal gangue. This achievement will undoubtedly set a new benchmark for the field of clean coal utilization.

Guizhou Province Key Laboratory of Clean Coal Utilization is located in Liupanshui Normal University.
