Recently, Panzhihua Steel's sulfuric acid process titanium dioxide has continuously acid-hydrolyzed about 60,000 tons of ultra-fine titanium concentrate, producing all of which is rutile-type titanium dioxide, marking that Panzhihua Steel has achieved the transformation of ultra-fine titanium concentrate from mineral processing, drying to the full-process industrial application of titanium dioxide production, and the utilization level of titanium resources has been significantly improved.


It is reported that as vanadium-titanium magnetite enters deep mining, the grain size of useful minerals becomes finer, and fine grinding is needed during the mineral processing process to obtain qualified iron and titanium concentrates, resulting in the increase in the content of micro-fine grained titanium concentrate in the beneficiation and smelting process, and more than 50% of titanium concentrate with a grain size of less than 38μm in the tailings exceeds 50%, resulting in a great waste of titanium resources. In order to further improve the yield of titanium resources, Panzhihua Steel has increased its research work on the recovery and utilization of ultra-fine titanium concentrate. The ultra-fine titanium concentrate production line with an annual output of 80,000 tons reached production in March 2023 has basically achieved Ultra-fine titanium concentrate is effectively recovered, but ultra-fine ilmenite is fine in size and has high content of flotation agent, which cannot be directly and efficiently utilized according to the existing titanium concentrate drying and acid hydrolysis methods.


In order to solve the problem of efficient utilization of ultra-fine ore, Panzhihua Research Institute, Mining Company and joint-stock company established a joint research team to solve the problem of difficult discharge and packaging during the drying process of ultra-fine ore and improve production efficiency; optimize the ultra-fine ore drying process, effectively reduce gas consumption by more than 20%; a new continuous acidolysis process suitable for the acidolysis reaction of ultra-fine ore has been developed, which solves the problem of poor acidolysis reaction effect, and the acidolysis rate of ultra-fine ore reaches the industrial goal; A sulfuric acid titanium dioxide preparation technology for ultra-fine ore has been formed, which solves the problem of titanium liquid sedimentation and achieves stable and smooth operation of ultra-fine ore on the entire sulfuric acid titanium dioxide production line.
