Recently, Cabot announced that it will actively participate in the "Energy-Saving Factory" program advocated by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), aiming to learn from industry best practices and further improve energy efficiency.
The "Energy Saving Factory" program has attracted active participation from leading U.S. manufacturers, who will jointly set ambitious environmental goals and commit to reducing energy consumption in U.S. operations by 25% over the next 10 years. The program is committed to working with different industries to help leading manufacturers optimize energy efficiency, improve performance, enhance corporate resilience, and enhance economic competitiveness to reduce their carbon footprints.
All Cabot's current manufacturing bases in the United States will participate in the plan. Currently, more than 280 partners from major industrial sectors in the United States participate in this "energy-saving factory" program, including more than 3600 factories across the United States. Through this program, partners can share effective energy efficiency strategies and best practices. Cabot looks forward to drawing valuable lessons from these partnerships and driving its energy efficiency improvement activities in the United States.
Martin O'Neill, senior vice president and chief sustainability officer at Cabot Dr. O'Neill said: "As a leader in our industry, we are working hard to do our part to support the transition to a low-carbon future. While we have made significant progress on the sustainable development agenda, the journey to net-zero emissions requires us to take action, innovate, and work with agencies such as the Department of Energy. We believe that participating in the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Saving Factory program will help us continue to explore and implement new strategies and best practices to continue to make new progress in improving energy efficiency."
Dr. Steve McKnight, interim acting director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Advanced Manufacturing and Industrial Decarbonization, said: "Cabot is committed to improving its energy efficiency by 25% over 10 years, which will make the company a leader in energy efficiency and help strengthen the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing."
For Cabot, energy recovery and energy efficiency have been two key nodes on the sustainability agenda. The company recently achieved an important milestone on the road to sustainable development, achieving ahead of schedule the 2025 global sustainable development goal, which means that energy output is 200% of input. This achievement is due to Cabot's investment in energy recovery systems in multiple factories, which improves the energy efficiency of the plants and helps reduce net greenhouse gas emissions from neighboring businesses and communities.
