Recently, drill pipes prepared from Baoti (600456) high-toughness titanium alloy pipes successfully completed an 8000-meter ultra-deep well drilling test in Tarim Oilfield, Xinjiang.
Compared with steel drill pipes, titanium alloy drill pipes have higher specific strength and can use the same equipment to carry out deeper drilling operations; they can reduce torque, further increase drilling speed, reduce drilling time, and reduce drilling costs. At the same time, due to the low elastic modulus of titanium alloy drill pipes, they have better corrosion and erosion resistance, which gives them obvious advantages in short-radius horizontal well operations and good adaptability in drilling under special working conditions.
In recent years, Baoti Co., Ltd. has continuously promoted the research and development of products and technologies in the field of oil drilling and production. It has joined forces with the China Petroleum Engineering Materials Institute and other units to develop various strength levels and various typical specifications with the goal of developing titanium alloy drill pipes for ultra-deep drilling. Series titanium alloy ultra-long drill pipe. Two titanium alloy drill pipes with a strength of up to 120 kilopounds per square inch (ksi) and a diameter of 88.9 mm and 101.6 mm respectively successfully completed the first downhole test in two ultra-deep wells of 8296 meters and 8579 meters respectively in the Tarim Oilfield. It further verified the feasibility of titanium alloy drill pipes, promoted the implementation of new materials and new technologies, and provided technical support for China to develop 10,000-meter ultra-deep energy wells in harsh environments.
