On September 27, Polish carbon black distributor MakroChem announced a major decision. They plan to completely withdraw from the Russian market before EU sanctions on Russia take effect. Behind this decision is the EU's upcoming new sanctions policy against Russia, which will take effect next July.

MakroChem recently issued a statement stating that it had closed its representative office in Russia in August and planned to sell its Russian subsidiary before the end of the year. As for the final sale date of these shares, MakroChem will inform their customers in a special announcement.

According to the news, MakroChem is still importing carbon black produced in Russia in accordance with the law and meets the import quota set by the European Union in February this year. This quota allows carbon black to be imported and transported to EU countries before June 30, 2024. However, under the terms of the sanctions package, MakroChem will stop importing carbon black from Russia after June 30, 2024.

Founded in 1995, MakroChem is a major distributor in Europe that distributes approximately 200,000 tons of carbon black each year, mainly used in tire and rubber applications. According to the company's previous announcement, the 200,000 tons of carbon black includes 160,000 tons of carbon black originating from Russia and 30,000 tons of carbon black originating from China.
