On August 24, at the "Smart Energy, Integrated Development" 2023 New Materials and New Energy Industry Chain Summit Forum held in Changzhou, Qi Xiangzhao, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Coatings Industry Association, delivered the "Analysis of the Operation Situation of China's Coatings Industry in the First Half of 2023 and A Brief Analysis of the Future Situation" shared.

According to the report, from January to June 2023, the total coating output of enterprises in the entire industry was approximately 16.875 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.2% compared with the same period last year; the total income from the main business was approximately 193.29 billion yuan, a decrease of 5.3% from the same period last year; The total profit was approximately 10.57 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.9% over the same period last year. The growth rate of the industry's total output and total profit has returned to positive since April, and the decline in the growth rate of main business income has narrowed, and the overall trend is improving.

From a regional perspective, the East China and South China regions play a role as ballast for the stable development of the coatings industry, with the overall proportion slightly decreasing; the North China and Southwest regions, as the second echelon of industry development, will have a significant decrease in the proportion of production in 2022, which will affect the industry. Growth has a lagging effect; the northwest and northeast account for a low base, and the overall trend is rapid.
Import and export data of the coatings and pigments industries in the first half of the year showed that in terms of exports, coatings exports grew rapidly, but the average price fell; the export growth of titanium dioxide among inorganic pigments maintained a high growth rate, but the average export price dropped significantly; the export volume and export volume of iron oxide pigments dropped both.
The 14th green development direction of the coatings industry will unite with the downstream coating industry to strengthen the promotion of coatings with low VOCs content. China's coatings industry will continue to develop well, and the coatings industry will carry out carbon fingerprinting and carbon emission reduction work. The coatings industry is moving towards green, integrated, innovative and intelligent directions.
In 2023, under the overall environment of stable and improving economy, the downstream economic activity of coatings is expected to increase and demand is gradually recovering. The annual economic operation data of the coatings industry is expected to stabilize and rebound in the second half of the year, and profit growth still has a long way to go.
In addition, data shows that from January to June 2023, the total paint output in Guangdong Province was 2.5141 million tons, a decrease of 2.1% from the same period last year.
Among them, coating output in January was 210,700 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 33.74%; coating output in February was 327,600 tons, a year-on-year increase of 38.1%; coating output in March was 536,500 tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.8%; coating output in April was 455,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15.20%; coating output in May was 456,600 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5.4%; Coating output in June was 496,500 tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%.
Judging from the data, except for the counter-trend growth in output in February, March and June, output in other months fell year-on-year, with the largest decline reaching 33.74%.
