GRI, a well-known off-road tire manufacturer in Sri Lanka, recently announced that it will increase the use of recycled carbon black (rCB) in its product manufacturing process to adapt to the trend of the tire industry's shift towards more sustainable manufacturing methods and environmentally friendly solutions.
According to GRI's September 1 announcement, their move aims to reduce the use of traditional carbon black in the manufacturing process, thereby reducing pressure on natural resources and having a smaller impact on the environment. This move has allowed GRI to significantly reduce the use of virgin carbon black in the production of its Ultimate Green XT forklift tires. Similarly, they said they have used recycled carbon black (rCB) to replace large amounts of traditional carbon black in their Green XLR Earth radial agricultural tires.
GRI emphasized that they have selected high-quality suppliers for recycled carbon black to ensure that the physical properties of the tires remain excellent. This step is not only about environmental protection, but also reflects the great importance they attach to product quality and performance.
It is worth understanding that recycled carbon black (rCB) is a carbon black material that is extracted and reused from used tires or other rubber products. In this new initiative, GRI achieves the dual benefits of environmental protection and sustainable development goals by using recycled carbon black in rubber compounds. According to industry sources, this decision is not only related to product manufacturing, but also examines the impact of the product from a full life cycle perspective, thereby further reducing the impact of tire production on the environment.
Mahesha Ranasoma, CEO of GRI, said: "Our efforts go beyond traditional tire development and cover the full life cycle impact of a product from manufacturing to end-of-life disposal."
