According to a report from the Myanmar Rubber Growers and Producers Association (MRPPA), the country exported only about 50,000 tons of rubber in this quarter, well below its target of exporting 300,000 tons to external markets this fiscal year. One of the main reasons for the decline in exports was that rubber tapping operations were temporarily suspended during the monsoon season, resulting in the suspension of the rubber business. At the same time, rubber prices in Mon State, an important rubber-producing state in Myanmar, are also affected by various factors such as global rubber demand, rubber production and market supply in Southeast Asian countries.
It is understood that Myanmar produces about 300,000 tons of rubber every year, 70% of which is exported to China, and the rest is shipped to Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, India, Japan and other countries. In the 2022/2023 fiscal year, Myanmar's rubber production reached 360,000 tons, of which more than 200,000 tons were exported. Myanmar's rubber is mainly produced in Mon States, Kachin States, Tanin Thai, Pegu and Yangon. As of 2018/2019, Myanmar has more than 1.628 million acres of rubber plantations, of which Mon State occupies the largest area, followed by Taninthayi Region and Kayin State.
However, despite some difficulties, Myanmar's rubber industry still contributes a lot to the country's economy. In the 2020/2021 fiscal year, Myanmar's rubber export revenue exceeded US$449 million, showing the important position of the rubber industry in Myanmar's foreign trade.
