Recently, Cabot Corporation announced the acquisition of a solar farm in Chiba, Japan, adjacent to Cabot's carbon black factory in Chiba, Japan, allowing Cabot to deliver solar energy as a renewable energy source to the region's power grid. The acquisition is part of Cabot's sustainability strategy, which aims to achieve one of its 2025 global sustainability goals, with twice the amount of electricity exported as much as the amount of electricity imported in terms of energy.
It is understood that the Chiba Solar Farm generates up to 3,500 megawatt hours per year, which is equivalent to powering more than 700 households in Japan. By acquiring the solar farm, Cabot has further increased the proportion of renewable energy in its grid, achieving output of 233% of input electricity. This move not only supports Cabot's sustainability strategy, but also allows it to deliver more renewable energy to the local power grid. Cabot is committed to reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. In order to achieve this goal, they adopted methods of recycling, utilizing and exporting energy during the manufacturing process. To further improve environmental performance, Cabot is also investing in energy recovery systems in its business network to achieve energy recycling by converting recovered heat into useful energy to generate electricity. These investments allow Cabot's energy center in Japan to generate approximately 172,000 megawatt hours of useful energy per year, equivalent to powering 36,000 homes. Bart, executive vice president and president of Cabot's reinforcing materials business unit "In pursuit of a net-zero emission future, we must continue to expand and diversify our energy sources," said Kalkstein, chief executive of the U.S. government. As an industry leader, we actively invest in renewable energy projects, such as solar farms, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and provide renewable energy to nearby businesses and communities. Through this acquisition, we are able to supply more renewable energy locally and further assume responsibility for the community of Chiba Prefecture." Cabot has always been committed to protecting the planet and continues to advance its journey of sustainable development. Their goal is to achieve global net zero emissions by 2050. Cabot has won multiple honors for its outstanding performance in sustainability, including receiving a Platinum rating from EcoVadis for the third consecutive year and being named one of the most responsible companies in the United States by Newsweek for the fourth consecutive year. In addition, for the second consecutive year, they were named one of the top 100 environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) companies in the United States by Investor Business Daily. Through this acquisition of the Chiba Solar Farm, Cabot further demonstrated its investment in renewable energy and commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. They will continue to work hard to move the company towards a low-carbon future and become a model for planet protection.
