Ilmenite
According to customs data, China imported 301600 tons of titanium ore in June 2024, down 5.07 percent from the same period last year and 28.51 percent month-on-month, with an average monthly price of 284.51 US dollars per ton. From January to June 2024, China imported about 222.70 tons of titanium ore, an increase of 2.14 percent over the same period last year, and imports increased by about 46800 tons.
Among them, the top three countries in June were Mozambique, Australia and Norway, accounting for 33%, 25% and 12% of the total imports, respectively.
From January to June in 2024, the import of titanium ore increased significantly in countries, while that in non-mainstream importing countries increased greatly, while that in mainstream importing countries decreased. Due to the decline in output of individual mines in Mozambique in the first half of the year, imports decreased by 130000 tons, while imports from Australia, Nigeria and Egypt increased significantly as a whole. In the first half of the year, affected by the market and the cost of titanium raw materials, the total amount of imports decreased compared with the same period last year, and the supply of imported ilmenite remained tight.
In June 2024, China exported 9133.48 tons of ilmenite, an increase of 184.55% over the same period last year, a decrease of 31.44%. From January to June 2024, China exported a total of about 44300 tons of ilmenite, an increase of 163.45% over the same period last year, and the export volume increased by about 25500 tons.
Titanium dioxide
In June 2024, China imported 7547.60 tons of titanium dioxide, an increase of 6.54 percent over the same period last year and a decrease of 16.90 percent over the same period last year. Among them, 2961.09 tons of titanium dioxide were imported by sulfuric acid process in June, up 34.93 percent from January to June. Imports of titanium dioxide by sulfuric acid process totaled 14000 tons from January to June, while imports of titanium dioxide by chlorination process totaled 4586.50 tons in June, down 33.41 percent from a month earlier. 33700 tons were imported from January to June.
From January to June 2024, China imported a total of about 47700 tons of titanium dioxide, an increase of 47.99 percent over the same period last year, and an increase of about 15500 tons.
Among them, the top three regions of titanium dioxide imports in June 2024 are Mexico, the United States and Australia, accounting for 30%, 20% and 19% of the total imports, respectively.
In June 2024, China exported 176400 tons of titanium dioxide, an increase of 18.14 percent over the same period last year, an increase of 40.42 percent over the same period last year. Among them, exports of titanium dioxide from sulfuric acid process in June were 146900 tons, up 16.31 percent from January to June. Exports of titanium dioxide from sulfuric acid process totaled 789800 tons from January to June, while exports of titanium dioxide from chlorination process totaled 182800 tons in June, an increase of 28.17 percent over the previous month.
From January to June 2024, China exported a total of about 972600 tons of titanium dioxide, an increase of 16.31 percent over the same period last year, and exports increased by about 136400 tons.
Among them, the top three countries in June were India, Brazil and South Korea, accounting for 20%, 10% and 5% of the total exports respectively.
According to the comparison of the data of the top 20 titanium dioxide exporting countries, Belgium, India and Brazil have a large increment. Due to the implementation of the initial anti-dumping duty rate of the European Union, the increase in exports to India and Brazil is more obvious in June, while the volume of exports to Europe is gradually decreasing.
The average monthly import price of titanium dioxide from January to June in 2024 was 3261.78 US dollars / ton, down 9.27 percent from the same period last year. The average monthly export price of titanium dioxide from January to June was 2249.05 US dollars / ton, an increase of 2.43 percent over the same period last year.
Sponge titanium
In June 2024, China imported 0 tons of sponge titanium, and from January to June, China imported 0 tons of sponge titanium, a decrease of about 110.91 tons in the same period last year.
In June 2024, China exported 665.7 tons of sponge titanium, an increase of 45.39 percent over the same period last year and 99.62 percent over the same period last year. From January to June 2024, China's cumulative exports of sponge titanium were about 2425.6 tons, down 4.95 percent from the same period last year, and exports decreased by about 126.35 tons.
In June 2024, the top three regions of sponge titanium export were South Korea, the United States and Russia, accounting for 39%, 25% and 12%, respectively.
Compared with the data of sponge titanium export countries in the first half of 2024, the export volume of Russia, the Netherlands and Estonia has declined, while that of South Korea, the United States and other countries has increased significantly compared with the same period last year, and the export market of sponge titanium has gradually stabilized. Under the influence of low domestic market prices and adequate supply, sponge titanium exports are still under great pressure.
