Shandong Port's first hydrogen-assisted power system retrofit for a front crane was put into operation.
Recently, the first hydrogen energy auxiliary power system retrofitted reach stacker at Shandong Port was installed and put into use at the Weifang Port Area of Bohai Bay Port. This is a new achievement in the construction of a "zero-carbon port" at Bohai Bay Port, providing solid support for Shandong Port's green and low-carbon transformation.
The traditional fuel-powered reach stacker has high operating costs and significant carbon reduction pressures, making it a "high energy consumer" among port mobile machinery. The Weifang Port Area chose the hydrogen energy auxiliary power system as a breakthrough for technical transformation, finalizing the retrofit plan after thorough research and multi-party validation. The retrofit plan effectively achieves cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and carbon emission reduction without affecting the original operational performance of the equipment. With the first piece of equipment successfully retrofitted and put into use, this green technical transformation path has been successfully turned from a blueprint into a reality.

According to calculations, after a single reach stacker is retrofitted with hydrogen energy, it can save 35,000 yuan in fuel costs annually and reduce carbon emissions by about 17 tons. The effectiveness of the first piece of equipment in operation has preliminarily verified the feasibility and practicality of applying hydrogen energy technology to port mobile machinery operations. Once the retrofitting of the subsequent three pieces of equipment is completed, the project is expected to save over 100,000 yuan annually in total costs and reduce carbon emissions by a total of 51 tons, highlighting both economic and ecological benefits simultaneously.
Behind the impressive benefit data is the long-term strategy of Bohai Bay Port to continuously promote the green transformation of ports. Previously, Bohai Bay Port had completed the "fuel-to-electric" retrofitting of two reach stackers in the Weifang Port Area, which have been operating stably. From "fuel-to-electric" to hydrogen energy applications, Bohai Bay Port continues to expand the green pathways for port mobile machinery.
Next, Bohai Bay Port will steadily expand the scale of hydrogen energy retrofit applications, continuously summarize and analyze operational data and practical experiences from the "fuel-to-electric" and hydrogen energy retrofit routes, and continuously optimize clean energy application plans. This will further promote the electrification and clean energy upgrade of mobile machinery, leveraging diverse clean energy applications to achieve green and high-quality development of the port.
